Creating a safer space also means taking risks and making sacrifices. In order to build a better and safer community, we have to have hard talks with our friends. Unfortunately, seeing our friends support others who have hurt us happens too often. There is too much talk about the other side of a story but the reality of it is that there are no two sides of rape or abuse. If someone feels as if they have been abused, hurt, and or violated, then they were. If you ever have to justify your actions, or defend why you didn’t hurt someone, you are scum. If you ever defend someone who has hurt others, you are scum and you have just as much blood on your hands as the abuser.
